He Has Come Home to Study Music

The bassoonist Ágnes Herpay is the first musician of the Pannon Philharmonic who has got a PhD; and s going to introduce herself as such a teacher, to the audience of Baranya. She has been put into the programme of the Master and Their Pupils with her student, Szabolcs Szőke. About Szabolcs is necessary to know that he is only 17 years old, but has had a very adventurous life already. He attended elementary school in Germany, where he practised the instrument with the help of Ágnes Herpay through distance learning; and then he returned to his home town, Pécs just to be more immersed in music, here at home.

- I selected him because he is extremely ambitious, and has all the attributes to be an extraordinary soloists,  says Ágnes Herpay. He won the national competition for his age category; he is an intelligent lad, and also takes a chance at a thing over his strength, if he is itching for it.

- The Bassoon Concerto by Hummel, which is going to be performed during the evening, is a very technical piece; I love this kind of difficult virtuosic playing. It is a classic work in that the lyrical melodic parts are in balance with the fast-paced technical elements - outlines the young musician his programme.

He says about his further plans: - I imagine my life ten years from now still with the bassoon, have been walking through the necessary steps: the college, the academy. But how much I fit into an orchestra, would be seen just after that. Anyway, now that I can begin my stage career with one of the best orchestra of the country, at one of the best concert hall of the country is a good start.

It is the teacher who says that the orchestration was written without a bassoon part, so she shall the be excited from outside – like a as a broody when a duckling is making the first attempt to the pond.
