Summer Start with Classical Music

Music lovers can pick delicacies in Pécs during our season, in a classical meaning, between September and June. However, the summer period has had not as many programmes for the classical music fans, till now. From this year, that gap will be filled by the Pécs - Placido Domingo Classics International Festival, organised for the first time in the city.

One could say that the Pannon Philharmonic, as the city’s symphony orchestra is naturally part of it, the permanent orchestra of the opera festival, which offers a high-standard programme at international niveau, and at which the ensemble perform with Plácido Domingo, after 2008 again.  At the opening evening of the four-day series, in front of the Cathedral of Pécs the Pannon Phiharmonic’s trumpeter, Péter Solymosi is going to step onto stage to amaze the audience with his talent.
In addition to the summer-starter festival, besides the traditional pieces, opera lovers can visit the Hungarian premiere of Rufus Wainwright ’s contemporary artistic opera Prima Donna, organised by the Pannon Philharmonic, at the Kodály Centre.
