The Kodály Centre has won its sixth award

Dr.  Zsolt Páva, the mayor of Pécs received the award for the Kodály Centre's 2nd place at the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Niveau Award Competition of building development, in the communal building category, on 15 May 2012 in St. Petersburg. The building, dreamt of by the architects of the Budapest based Architect Studio Ltd (Ferenc Keller, Richárd Hőnich, Tamás Fialovszky, Benedek Sólyom) have got important honours sixth time already. 

The international real estate development competition received   a total of 60 applications from 13 countries, in 14 categories. The entries were evaluated by a 47-person-jury of designers, architects, urbanists, contractors, economists, and lawyers. They looked at the applications in terms of design, construction, environmental protection, marketing and community benefits. The application of the Kodály Centre was submitted by the Pécs City Development Company, as management organization of the investment project.
At the competition in the hotel category, the Hotel  Continental  Budapest**** won first prize; the office building  of the Telenor Telecom Co. and the Nyíregyháza Zoo (Sóstó Zoo) achieved second place in their categories. The Hungarian applicants held a press conference about the awards on 22 May 2012 at the Hotel Continental . On behalf of Pécs, Dr. Zsolt Páva mayor held a speech, led up and finished down by performances of two musicians of the Pannon Philharmonic, Balázs Bujtor concert master and flutist Judith Tímár.
The building has already won the "Award of Media Architecture", the 1st prize of the Design Award 2011 of the hg.hu, the Pro Communitate Award, the 2d prize and the Special Prize of the 13th Hungarian Real Estate Development Niveau Award Competition. The interior architects of the building, László Rádóczy and ZsoltTolnai have won the “Interior Architect of the Year” award of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects. The Kodály Centre, with its architectural and functional success is a major contributor to the strengthening of the image of   "Pécs, the City of Culture".
