At the end of December 2013 and in early January 2014, the Pannon Philharmonic introduces itself to Europe via a three-week concert tour. The symphony orchestra of the city of Pécs in Southern Hungary is going to step on stages of some of the excellent concert halls of Germany and Switzerland.
During the series of 10 concerts, the orchestra will debut at the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the KKL in Lucerne, and the Tonhalle in Zurich. On the programme of the concerts are works of Smetana, Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, Strauss, Rimsky-Korsakov, Glinka, Kodály and concertos of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. The ensemble’s partners as soloists will be the pianist Andrei Gavrilov, the trumpet player Guliano Sommerhalder, and Romaine Bolinger, Kirill Troussov, and Ilya Gringolts violinists. On the tour, the orchestra will be led by a guest conductor, Michael Zukernik, and the Pannon Philharmonic’s principal conductor Tibor Bogányi and its permanent conductor, András Vass.
As the climax of the concert tour, the orchestra playes a concert in the 2600-seat great hall of the Berlin Philharmonie on January 5, conducted by its chief conductorTibor Bogányi and featuring the world-renowned pianist Andrei Gavrilov. At the evening, besides performing the overture of Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla, Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Seherezade, the orchestra won’t be short of a work of a Hungarian composer: at the finale of the concert, one can hear the Dances of Galánta by Kodály.
The Pannon Philharmonic is proud to represent the Hungarian classical music scene on the international field - particularly that the ensemble can introduce itself on its winter concert series at Europe’s world-class concert venues. As Hungary's national orchestra, the Pannon Philharmonic is happy to convey the cultural values of its country and Pécs to the wider world.
For the January 5 concert, Zsolt Páva, the mayor of Pécs is travelling the ensemble, too.
