Born to Hungarian parents in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, in 1983, Christian Schumann received his first piano lesson at the age of six; began his conducting studies at the University of Music in Freiburg; he received his diploma in conducting and composition at “Franz Liszt” University in Weimar in 2007, instructed by Nicolás Pasquet and Michael Obst. The same year, he won the First Prize at the International Conducting Competition Budapest. During his studies, he was influenced by teachers such as Pierre Boulez, Kurt Masur, Jorma Panula and Yuri Simonov; had the opportunity to assist conductors such as Christoph v. Dohnanyi, Peter Eötvös, Esa-Pekka Salonen, David Stern and Frank Strobel. Christian Schumann has conducted concerts with numerous symphonic orchestras and operas throughout Europe, in Asia and in the United States of America.
