The programme of the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra's, our guest in Pécs wants to revoke Paris of the 19th century, the metropolis where both “main character” of the evening, the Polish Chopin and the Italian Rossini lived and composed. The two composers, moreover, got to know each other personally in the French capital; the latter one even made a transcription of a theme of the Italian master’s opera Cinderella in one of his early work – in the Fantasy in E flat major for flute and piano. This time, you can hear another Chopin-fantasy, the op.13, also known as "Grande Fantasie", which is based on Polish folk tunes, together with the Andante Spinato and Grand Polonaise, op.22 and the Piano concerto No.2. From Rossini you can hear among others the aria (Mathilde’s aria) that significantly contributed to it that William Tell became one of Rossini's most successful Paris operas.
The program is supported by the Visegrad Fund.
