About the Programme

The young Brazilian composer, André Mehmari’s concerto for bassoon with harp for and strings accompaniment, written in 2009, is a really unique piece with lively rhythms, exiting harmonies, and film music and jazz elements. 260 years before that, Handel used the bassoon as a military brass band instrument. No less than 12 bassoons played at the premiere of the background music composed to the royal fireworks celebrating the peace treaty after the Austrian Succession war. It was also necessary since the contemporary audience wanted to hear the music in the midst of fireworks pops. He later changed his orchestration, but the grandiosity of the music has remained.  The soloist of the evening is Ágnes Herpay, the principal bassoon player of the Pannon Philharmonic.
