About the Programme

On 24 November 2013, the Pannon Philharmonic is travelling to Normandy to play two concerts according to the honouring invitation of the Autumn in Normandy (Automne en Normandie).
This year, the festival is about masculinity and femininity, the duality in the unity of humankind, looking for the substance of being a man or a woman - with contemporary and historical works, asking for help of the language of diverse art forms: theatre, music, and dance. A "gender" has many aspects, like in terms of biology or cultural relations. The real challenge is to understand these concepts - masculine or feminine - artistically.
As a guest of the festival, the orchestra is going to perform at the Théâtre Charles Dullin in Rouen-Grand-Quevilly; the concerts are on November 25 and 26, at 8 pm. On the programme, there will be Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and the orchestral cross-section of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde, rearranged by Henk de Vlieger. Thus, the orchestra shows the man-woman relationship through a dazzling trip across a Bartokian castle, then by intermediating the mystical embodiment of a Wagnerianly clean passion. The two works show the difference between man and woman, and the problematic of their relationship from different view points. Bartók’s Judit iopens the secret doors of a man’s life; Wagner illustrates the forbidden love of man and woman, captured in passion.
At the concerts, the Pannon Philharmonic will be led by Maestro Daniel Kawka. The French conductor and the orchestra work together for the first time on this Normandy tour.  Also featuring these concerts: Krisztián Cser and Adrienn  Miksch.
After the festival, the orchestra gives some tasting from the programme of the concerts in Normandy for its Pécs audience, too: at its Orchestral Obsession concert on 29 November, at 7.00pm at the Kodály Centre.
