About the Programme

Erik Satie was one of the eccentric figures of France at the turn of the century, was much less excited by the idea of heroic reshaping than his contemporaries, and was much more into Épater la bourgeoisie, whose humorous intrigues of simple character were often aiming at Debussy's art. Besides the impact of the great composers at the turn of the century, the music of Karol Szymanowski, Polish music is unmistakable, and as such, it can be compared to Chopin's art. Unlike Satie, Franck belongs to a group of composers who took their profession really seriously, making considerable efforts to create something remarkable. In the course of the evening, the works of these three quite different composers can still form an integral unit.
