On the programme of this gala concert, besides Liszt’s Piano Concerto in E flat major, you can find musical works closely related to the 1956 Revolution. Works by two Hungarian contemporary composers, Sándor Balassa and László Dubrovay, written for remembrance to the revolution are going to be heard, together with Beethoven’s Egmont overture. The latest one once became a symbol of the revolution: in 1956, from October 23 to November 4, Beethoven’s work was broadcast from the Budapest Radio and - as Péter Balassa said - “then, on those days, it became part of the revolutionary context of a Middle-European small country; thus it turned to be a new work”.
The concert is a co/production of the Hungarian Art Academy, the Zsolnay Heritage Nonprofit Ltd, and the Pannon Philharmonic.
