As it can be inferred from its title, at this concert, one could learn about the masterpieces of Finnish music. The backbone of the evening would be the works of the northern country's national composer, who died sixty years ago, Jean Sibelius. You can hear the composer's last, the Seventh Symphony, composed in 1924, a well-known part of Karelia Suite, and the symphonic poem titled Finlandia, particularly significant in Finnish national history by symbolizing the aspirations of independence of the country that wanted to get rid of the Russian Empire’s shackles in its premiere 1900, and later has become an important national musical composition. In addition to Sibelius's compositions, there will be some very special works, rarely heard in Hungarian concert halls. So is the composition of Uuno Klami, an early 20th century composer, who mostly followed Maurice Ravel's style, and who tried to draw a portrait of Esko Nummisuutari, one of the popular figures of the Finnish theatre of the 19th century. Yrjö Hjelt is a well-known member of the current generation of composers.
