In the careeres and works of Ernő Dohnányi and Jenő Zádor, two decades his junior, are several similarities. Both of them are now considered as considering composers, who avoided dauntless experimentations; instead of that, they were looking for new ways while never doubting the classical-romantic music traditions. The careers of the two composers are close because their historical roots, as well: thank to their pedagogical talents, as citizens of the Hapsburg Monarchy, both of them could teach in Vienna, then in Budapest. And after the career breaking Second World War, both of them began new lives in the United States, where they also stayed until their deaths. Although none of these composers became renowned through their folk music inspired works, the programme of the concert, so Zádor’s Variations on a Hungarian Folk Song and Dohnányi’s Ruralia Hungarica give a tasting about the way how the two masters handled the Hungarian folk-tune-treasures. This time, these two works are framing Dohnányi’s symphonic masterpiece, the Konzertstück. Another specialty of the concert is the unique connection between the evening’s soloist and conductor: the Pannon Philharmonic’s cellist, playing solo, Ildikó Janzsó is the mother of Dániel Erdélyi, who is leading the orchestra.
The concert is free but you can visit it only with honorary tickets. Honorary tickets can be demanded at the Kodály Centre box office, from 2014 August 26, to the extent of the available seats.
