The Soviet-Russian composer, Rodion Shchedrin (1932-) wrote his ballet music, titled Carmen, in 1967. It is the paraphrase of the popular opera of Bizet (1838-1875). The adaptation humbly follows the opera’s story, the recognisable, but totally changed melodies show the story’s characters’ faces.
The composer, clarinettist and saxophonist Vinicio Meza is one of the most popular composers of Costa Rica; he is a real cross over musician, has composed pieces for classical chamber music formations and a Concerto for four Trombones and an Orchestra; he plays Mozart and Latin jazz, as well.
Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) wrote nine suit-like Bachianas brasileiras with different instrumental arrangements. There are orchestral pieces, accompanied solo songs, and piano works among them - what is common in them that he connected the Brazilian folk music with baroque forms and musical idioms referring Bach.
Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), the world-renowned Argentinean composer wrote his piece titled Transcriptions for Symphonic Orchestra, Tango Quartet, and Vocal using that unmisrecognisable and exiting musical language, which had proved to be perfectly suitable for alive and fruitful communication with the classical European music (from Vivaldi, Bach to Stravinsky).
