About the Programme

The Mecsek Choir of Pécs is preparing the celebration of its 60th anniversary. The ensemble, founded by József Hegyi in 1957, was originally built on a cooperation of a choir, an orchestra, and a dance group –following the example of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble– and sang arrangements of folksongs; but soon, it put written compositions ( a capella pieces and major choir works) in its programme. Besides its regional importance, the Mecsek Choir could be proud of its country-wide fame, it even has had international invitations for decades. The jubilee concert, featuring two guest choirs, renowned soloists, and the Pannon Philharmonic, promises a really festive atmosphere, where besides of works by Bartók, Kodály, Seiber, or Bárdos, some still active composers, related to the choir or the city, will also get roles.

The conductors of the evening: Ernő Nagy, Aurél Tillai, and Attila Kertész.

The concert is a co-production of the Pannon Philharmonic and the Mecsek Choir.
