After the performance of UniCum Laude Singers and the intermission, there comes the premiere of a work of Csaba Vedres. He wrote his oratorio Miserere for a baritone soloist, children’s choir, mixed choir, and string orchestra. The six-movement-work is a complete arrangement of the Latin text of Psalm 50, which is about repentance. The composer recalls many eras and genres with his music: there are Gregorian music, the late Renaissance of the age Gesualdo, the passionate Baroque and contemporary styles, as well. The work follows the journey of the soul from repentance to condonation –to advertise absolution and hope, finally, in the language of music.
The concert is a co-production of the Diocese of Pécs and the Pannon Philharmonic, with collaboration of the Zsolnay Heritage Nonprofit Ltd. The sponsor of the premiere of Csaba Vedres’s work is the National Cultural Fund.
