That makes this concert special is not only the fact that the programme is made up of pieces that are rarely heard in Hungary, but also that each piece exemplifies the interoperability between the vocal and instrumental genres in such a way that the singing is going to be heard where it is less expected, but it will remain “mute” when the title or the genre suggest otherwise. The almost twenty-minute-long Four Sea Interludes, originated from Britten's opera, which was performed after the Second World War (June 1945) as the first one, is often played as an independent orchestral suite, too. Neither is any vocal in Arvo Pärt’s Song written in memory of Britten (Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten), you can only hear the ethereally pure tunes of the strings. Sibelius's compositions, the five-movement symphonic poem written about Kullervo, the tragic hero of the Kalevala (1892), however, the with the inclusion of the soloists and the choir gets ennobled into a so-called chorus symphony, a genre whose most famous 20th-century example would be actually one of Britten's works, the Spring Symphony (1949).
