About the Programme

The concert features two popular pieces of two popular figures of Russian and Czech music. However, this popularity also gives grounds for the controversial judgment of the works concerned. As far as Tchaikovsky's piano concerto is concerned, it is often criticized for the excessive impact by Liszt and, as such, the lack of originality. Dvorak's last symphony, the only one composed in America, obscured all the previous works of the composer, and became the cornerstone of 20th-century music, and indeed, film soundtracks as such. Was it the impact of Liszt and the American influence that made these works so great? It is for the audience to decide!
