About the Programme

In his operas, Wagner trusted the musical message not to the singers but the orchestra. The net of the leading themes represents the real drama. Therefore, it is not strange the transcription of the Tristan and Isolde, made by a Dutch composer Henk de Wieger, which elevates seven important elements out of the opera; to put them in a new symphonic context.
Also in Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2, the orchestra gets a "bigger" part than one would expect in a concerto. In the opening movement, the main melodies are played by the orchestra, not by the soloist; the virtuoso piano part is rather rich of ornamenting elements.
