„I will make the overture […] with Turkish music” – wrote Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to his father about the basic musical idea of The Abduction from the Seraglio. The “Sinfonia” made sounding more oriental with piccolo and a percussion section bigger than usual allows us a glimpse into the backstage, also through making the craving serenade of the main character (Belmonte) to a form part and through the exotic atmosphere of a parade. The pieces played on marimba are mostly adaptations. The Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra by Nebojsa Jovan Zivković is thus really unique. The audience can become acquainted with the second piece of the Op.25 series presented in 1997 by one of the world’s most colourful concerto percussion artist. After the sublime topics of his previous symphonic poems Richard Strauss chooses an absolutely everyday story as the leitmotiv of his Alpine Symphony. Like a grandfather telling stories he leads the listener on the picturesque landscapes of the mountains, from the meadow with flowers through the mountain top reached over a slippery glacier to the comforting arrival at home.
