SnailShell - Half-Seriously about Classical Music
Or full-seriously, but in a form that is acceptable for the ones of 4-8 years of age. Thus playfully, imaginatively, with lot of music, introducing the classical instruments to the future generation. SnailPa, as trombonist Szabolcs Kiss is called in t h programme, is an open and happy personality, who often communicates with his fellow artists in the language of humour. We welcome the families to the SailShell Series with his recommendation:
“We have our main pillars, one of them is a fable, which has a role in every programme; these fables are created by me. Their solid essence is that the good always wins; and the musical support, illustration strengthen the context of the stories. Constant elements of our shows are poems and folk songs, singing and dancing together, which moves the children and keeps them in action, is unmissable. The changes are always in accord with the used classical music.
Now, here is the season that will contain some recurring stuff, as well. In the autumn, we’ll go hunting with the help of our four talented hornists and a string quartet is going to show us the hidden possibilities and beauties of their instruments. At Christmas, four violinists will charm a winter atmosphere; the show is called “Silver Violins”. We will greet Ildikó Megyimóreczné Schmidt, the teacher of Misi Boros, featuring her in the programme, with a piano playing the leading role “In Black and White.” That January show is going to be really a talk show, using her unbelievable music-pedagogic knowledge. The flutist and a bassoon player let the children to flight into the royal court of Friedrich II; the whistles of wood winds will be blown by our clarinettists in April. “The Morning Trumpet Show” loudly initiates the audience into the secrets of making sound of the brass instruments – of course, joyfully and with help of classical music.. To ease the mood a bit and to smuggle some familiar musical motives into the ears of the audience, we put also some comics music in the programme and the folk tune are played for the children in my transcriptions. At the end of the series, you can see and hear the introduction the children’s favourites: the percussions. There is always a chance to try out the instruments; but usual the drums and bells are the most popular and of course the loudest, too!
I have colleagues who regularly bring their children to the shows, there are many parents whose hobby is instrumental music but there are also ones who are just amazed by music and have not studied any instrument. I recommend SnailShell for everybody, since all three groups would find their own joy – I say this from my experience.” (Szabolcs Kiss)
