About the Programme

Arthur Honegger's composer reputation was based on his Pacific 231. The work is the first major milestone of the "mechanic age" the music piece is titled with a name of train engine type. The composer shares with the audience the pleasure of the picure of teh sluggishly starting, and then more and more dynamically rushing monster.
Jacques Offenbach was an outstanding cellist of his age. His Cello concerto (Concerto Militaire), he presented himself. The lost work was reconstructed later. As a jigsaw puzzle, it could be put together from the available parts, as it could originally sound.
Maurice Ravel often told tales the children of his friends. One of them remembered these occasions: "… he toldus about Cinderella, the Beauty and the Beast, the Poor Little Mouse's Adventures - this one made up for me." From there came an idea of a tale music piece, which is now commonly played as a suit: the Mother Goose Tales.
Paul Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a symphonic poem after Goethe. The young apprentice recalls a ghost, let start the broom for carrying water, but the spell that would stops the broom he has forgotten. The busy work is illustrated by a riding theme; the apprentice’s desperation is soothing by a theme of master who brings the solution.
