About the Programme

There are some emblematic works that can almost represent their entire genre themselves. Passion inevitably brings the two works by Bach into mind, just as Beethoven's ninth does for symphony, and requiem is firstly represented by Mozart and Verdi. In this season, we feature Verdi's great, all-embracing work for remembering our deceased loved ones. As a young man, Verdi lost both his children and his wife within two years. Although Requiem was composed 30 years later, its tunes speak to every grieving heart.
