The choir, originally called State Choir, was founded in 1986 and is now an 80-member-chorus. Antal Mátyás, who got his diploma at the Liszt Academy as a flutist and a conductor, has bent he choir director since 1990. The choir’s repertory is extremely rich, ranging from Bach to contemporary composers, from a capella pieces through the great classical oratories to operas, even jazz tunes. The ensemble has been conducted by excellent conductors like Antal Doráti, Péter Eötvös, Ádám Fischer, Lamberto Gardelli, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, or Zoltán Kocsis... Durin the years they have been successfully performing in several European cities, also in Japan, Israel and Turkey.
