István Várdai was born in 1985 in Pécs. In 1997 he was admitted to the class of exceptional talented children of Franz Liszt Music Academy. After his university studies in Budapest and Vienna, he continued them at the Academy of Music in Kronberg. In 2006, he won First Prize at the 13th International Brahms Competition held in Austria; in 2007, he was awarded 3rd Prize the 13th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow; and in 2008, he won First Prize and the Audience Award at the 63th International Music Competition in Geneva. He also can boast with a uniquely successful series: he won the David Popper International Music Competition three times. He gave his debut solo concert in The Hague in 1998, followed by notable stations such as London, Florence, Kobe, Frankfurt, Moscow, Munich, Vienna and New York. He has performed as a soloist with the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra in China, the Suisse Romande Orchestra, and several times with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and with almost every major orchestra of Hungary.
