Paulo Ferreira

Paulo Ferreira is an acclaimed Portuguese tenor with a unique combination of vocal and dramatic skills. Graduating from the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts, Porto/Portugal, he won several first prizes in singing competitions and received funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He began his career as a baritone. Don José (Carmen, 2007, Coliseu do Porto) was his first tenor role, received with great enthusiasm by both audience and press.

His international debut was in Germany in July 2011, singing alongside Anna Netrebko in the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. In the same year he appeared as Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Grigoriy (Boris Godunov) at the Theater Hof and Stadthalle in Bayreuth, with enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

This was followed by the role of Giuseppe Hagenbach (La Wally) at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, Austria, in a production recorded live for the Capriccio label. Then the Mozart Requiem in Bayreuth, and the roles of Ismaele (Nabucco) at the Pfalztheater, Giasone (Medea) in Innsbruck, and Manrico (Il Trovatore) at the Festival Oper Schenkenberg in Switzerland. Following these successes he was invited to take part in a touring production of the Verdi Requiem in Germany and Slovakia. He then returned to Innsbruck to perform as Don Alvaro (La Forza del Destino).

In Spain, he made is debut at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, with a critically acclaimed return to the role of Don José (Carmen), and was again at the Pfalztheater to join the cast in a production of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, in the role of Des Grieux, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in Germany, and the Verdi Requiem in Austria. Stage appearances included, at the Tiroler Landestheater, the roles of the Italian Singer (Rosenkavalier) and Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur).

Current engagements include Manon Lescaut – Des Grieux (Oldenburgisches Staatstheater – Oldenburg) Germany und Turandot – Calaf (Tiroler Landestheater, Innsbruck) Austria.
