Christmas is celebrated with programmes suitable to the occasion also at the concert venues, worldwide. At the Cathedral of Pécs, this year, too, there are going to be played mainly ceremonial baroque compositions (Monteverdi, Bach and Telemann's works). The only exception is Francis Poulenc’s a capella composition - written for mixed choir created from soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices - the Four Christmas Motets, which belongs to the most favourite pieces of the 20th century church music literature. At the Christmas Concerts of the Pannon Philharmonic, there are regularly Bach cantatas. Most recently, the Cantata No. 191 could be heard by the audience of the Basilica, this year, one of the most well-known composition of the genre will be played, the Cantata 147, completed in 1716 and revised in 1723. Bach also wrote a Christmas cantata (the No.142), entitled Ein Kind ist uns geboren (For Us A Child Is Born) but now not his work, but the one with a same title, composed by his contemporary and close friend Georg Philipp Telemann, will finish the evening.
