Following András Vass' conducting baton, the works of the concert programme flashes the diverse faces of romantic music. Beethoven, as a forerunner of the period illustrates the romantic hero in his music written to Goethe's Egmont. For us, the Egmont-overture has two revolutionary meanings: it has also become a symbol of the 1956 Revolution. The six Zemlinsky-songs, composed to Maeterlinck's poems about death and unrequited love belong to the lyrical movement of the late romantic period; we could enjoy them in Marianna Váradi's performance. Presenting the mature late romantic period, Tchaikovsky's last work, which is considered as a height of his oeuvre, the "Pathetic Symphony" is going to be played.
