About the Programme

Frano Parać’s compositional activity goes around a sound as a phenomenon: colours, range and expressivon possibilities. The formal superstructures of the works are determined by the composer’s theory about the relationship between sounds and their movement also. Among these works occupies a special place the Music for strings (1980) opus. Krešmir Baranović is the most striking personality of the new nationally Croatian and ex-Yugoslavian music. His work called From My Hills written for baritone solo and orchestra draws on F. Galovic’s literature collection. The native landscape and peasant life chronicle revives with the atmosphere of the four seasons. After his appointment to the Advisory Board of the Paris Conservatoire, Claude Debussy was given a kind duty: composing pieces for the next clarinet exam. The mood of the Rhapsody that requires a versatile musician, evokes the sunny world of watercolors of the Preludes for Piano. Masses of music fans were waiting for symphony by the young Brahms. The work let them wait for 22 years. The composer felt that the great ancestor, Beethoven's legacy paralyzes him. Finally, in 1876 there came the first symphony, recognized as a masterpiece by all who were waiting for it.
