The introduction for the guest performance of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra will be the overture of the musical play Amfitrion by the prolific 20th-century Croatian composer, who wrote three operas, Boris Papandopulo. After the overture, we can hear two classic works: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C major, op.56 for piano, violin, cello and orchestra, which was written by the crowning of Viennese classicism in the shadow of such large-scale and weighty works as the "Eroica" Symphony and the Waldstein Sonata. In the Triple Concerto we hear not the pathetic and tragic Beethoven, but the easy-going, liberated chamber musician, who was familiar with the genre of baroque concerto grosso, as well. After that, our southern neighbours are playing Robert Schumann’s Symphony No.4 in D Minor, which was composed in 1841, but in 1851 underwent a major overhaul. His composer called it an orchestral fantasy written for symphony orchestra.
