About the Programme

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture theater was not designed for theatre performance; there are no references to concrete events of the plot in the score. But knowing the tragedy, one can follow the fight of the two enemy families and the emerging of glowing love. Tchaikovsky originally composed the finale as a funeral march. He later changed that: the final tacts proclaim the power of eternal love.
Nikolai Tchaikin is a Ukrainian conductor, composer, music teacher, and a master of the harmonica, rarely used in classical music. His most popular works give the leading roles to this instrument. The Harmonica Concerto in B-flat major, similarly to Tchaikovsky's works, shows the unparalleled beauty and atmosphere of the Russian folk music in a classic-romantic frame.
