Johannes Brahms (1833–1897): German Requiem, op.45
The master of the German romantic music, the composer of y the first outstanding funeral music written in German, created this requiem inspired by two things. He mourned for his beloved idol and friend, Robert Scumann and felt grief because of his mother’s death. Brahms edited the text from the different biblical verses himself. The German Requiem is one of the most brilliant examples of the heritage cherishing since Brahms revitalised and refreshed the traditions of the first and last great composer of the German baroque church music, Schütz and Bach, with his deeply empathic, sometimes blue but cathartic sound.
